Adam’s journey represents the heart of what we do best at EGG – support someone through crisis, remove practical barriers, and help them transition from homelessness towards a safe, more stable future. Adam’s story is a true testament of what can be achieved through consistent support, advocacy, and a shared determination to never give up.

For two years, home for Adam was the driver’s seat of a car.

After Adam’s employment contract ended along with his accommodation, he struggled to secure further stability. Adam returned home to Manchester, with nowhere to stay but his small car and the occasional night on a couch. The relentless instability took a heavy toll on his physical health and mental well-being, leaving Adam isolated and trapped in a brutal, exhausting cycle.

Adam did everything he could to find himself a home but despite his best efforts, he was getting nowhere. Adam had submitted countless homelessness applications, and each time he was deemed not a priority. The challenge wasn’t just finding a roof. Adam needed safe, suitable housing that could accommodate his mother, who is disabled, and his young child. These specific needs made his barriers to housing more complex.

Yet behind the daily struggle was a man who refused to give up. In addition to trying to resolve his housing situation, Adam had a polished CV and the drive to work. He was actively applying for jobs every single day. He wasn’t looking for a handout; he was looking for a foothold. A safe door to lock behind him, and someone to help him navigate a complex housing system that felt impossible to break through.

When Adam was referred to EGG through the Be Well Programme, he came to us looking for clarity, support, and a reason to keep going. Sarah stepped in to guide him through every step of the journey. Rather than just offering general advice, Sarah provided hands-on, skilled support, to actively help Adam break down the complex housing process, challenge unfair decisions, and stay engaged even when everything felt impossible to navigate. For the first time in years, Adam wasn’t fighting the system alone.

What followed was months of relentless advocacy driven by Sarah’s determination and persistence. Working alongside partner agencies across the city, Sarah took on the heavy lifting. She submitted countless referrals to source appropriate support, chased updates, and actively questioned decisions that stood in Adam’s way. When routes led to dead ends, Sarah re-examined Adam’s situation and explored realistic, alternative housing options. Through every hurdle, setback, and freezing night spent in his car, Adam stayed remarkably engaged and resilient. And Sarah stayed right beside him, keeping the momentum going, and providing steady, unbroken consistency in an unstable world.

Then came the moment years in the making. An offer for a property. When Adam called to share the news with Sarah, the relief was overwhelming. There was one final barrier to cross – the deposit. Sarah actively removed the financial barrier by securing emergency third-party funding and Adam was able to accept the property.

When Adam received his keys and shared photos of his new place with Sarah, it represented far more than just a housing transition. It was the foundation for long-overdue stability, independence, and the dignity of having a space of his own to share with his family. Turning the key to his new home marked the exact moment he could finally look to the future with confidence.

Today, Adam isn’t just surviving. He’s living. Settled in his new home, he has a safe, secure foundation and is rebuilding his life with confidence. Adam’s journey proves what becomes possible through dedicated advocacy, practical support, and unwavering belief. It stands as a powerful reminder of EGG’s mission: ensuring no one has to navigate crisis alone, and helping people move beyond homelessness into bright, sustainable futures.
